Hilda L. McKithen, Ed. D.

Program Assistant, HOPE and Christian Learning Center

Hilda L. McKithen was born in Florence, SC, to Ms. Hattie Lee,  a single parent who worked two jobs to provide for her children. Her mother, a strong woman of faith, instilled in her children that education and hard work were the ways out of their environment and poverty.

Being the first in her immediate family to attend college, Hilda obtained several degrees from SC State University, Georgia College and State University, Lincoln University, and Arogsy University/Sarasota.

Hilda taught in Greene County for many years before relocating to Rockdale County and becoming an Assistant Principal at Conyers Middle School. She was a high school assistant principal at Newton High School. She was also an Adjunct Professor for Troy University and Georgia Perimeter College. In 2011, she retired from public education. She continued to work part time as a hearing officer for Newton County School System. She and her family moved back to Greene County in order to give back to the community.

Dr. McKithen volunteers with the Atlas scholarship committee; sponsors a family with Habitat for Humanity; mentors for Tri-County Mentoring; and, serves as a Greene County Poll worker. She is an active member of Greene County Retired Educators and an active member of Historic Springfield Baptist Church where she does whatever is needed to advance the Kingdom.

Hilda married her college sweetheart, James Willis McKithen. They are the proud parents of Ashlee J. McKithen, RN, BSN, and Justin Willis McKithen, Esq.

Her Motto for daily living comes from Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Dr. McKithen is excited to work with the ATLAS team.
